24 Brand New Hours To Begin Again
Jane Pottmeyer | FEB 7, 2022

Welcome to a brand new week. I read an IG post last week where the person asked if others were also just feeling called to step into 2022. Every year I create some new year's intentions with fresh enthusiasm and by Feb, I notice the motivation waning replaced by something else. Life is busy filled with the important, mundane, & distractions that have the ability to take us away from our goals.
For me, late evenings can be a run away roller coaster with time spent in front of the computer, phone, or television instead of an earlier desired bedtime. In the past, I would judge myself negatively for the lack of follow through & sometimes give up entirely.
How we relate to & speak to ourselves either leaves us feeling supported or judged. The truth is, everyday we get to begin again🙏. We can re-calibrate with our intentions and with what brings us joy in each new day.
One of the blessings for an ongoing yoga practice is the continued learning and re-learning of acceptance & compassion for the unfolding of the present moment.
They say it takes 21 days to establish a habit and that is exactly what we have left for the month of February. I would love for you to join me in re-starting or continuing a small achievable habit(s) in your week whether it's drinking a few glasses of water, showing up on your yoga mat, finding movement that feels good in your body, or other small habit that leaves you feeling nourished.
The late Thich Nhat Hahn has a lovely view on this:
"Every morning, when we wake up, we have twenty-four brand-new hours to live. What a precious gift! We have the capacity to live in a way that these twenty-four hours will bring peace, joy, and happiness to ourselves and others. Peace is present right here and now, in ourselves and in everything we do and see. The Question is whether or not we are in touch with it. We don't have to travel far away to enjoy the blue sky. We don't have to leave our city or even our neighborhood to enjoy the eyes of a beautiful child. Even the air we breathe can be a source of joy.
We can smile, breathe, walk, and eat our meals in a way that allows us to be in touch with the abundance of happiness that is available. We are very good at preparing to live, but not very good at living. We know how to sacrifice ten years for a diploma, and we are willing to work very hard to get a job, a car, a house, and so on. But we have difficulty remembering that we are alive at the present moment, the only moment there is for us to be alive. Every breath we take, every step we make, can be filled with peace, joy, and serenity. We need only to be awake, alive in the present moment..."
